Last December 17, the Liga de Quito celebrated the success of the Pro League 2023 and in a few days it seemed that the current Ecuadorian football champion had become an enigma.
Given the possible divisions in leadership, mainstays such as coach Luis Zubeldía would be among those who would not renew his contract, so regarding his continuity, after defeating Independiente del Valle on penalties, he said that “there is uncertainty”.
And not only the case of the Argentine causes concern among Alba fans, but also the fact that the Peruvian striker, Paolo Guerrero, has terminated his employment relationship with the institution and although he has stated that he wants to continue, his future is uncertain.
“My contract expired in December, I don’t know what will happen in 2024. I would like to (continue in the League) because of the treatment they gave me, because of the love of the fans, my teammates and the whole environment,” said Guerrero in an interview with RPP from Lima.
“That’s a decision the managers will have to make. I stay on the sidelines and watch the proposals. “I am very happy about what I got and that I took advantage of the holidays,” he added.
Guerrero indicated that he is now a free agent and that there will be offers from other clubs (which he did not mention) and leaves it up to his representative where he will play next year.
“For now, I leave everything to my representative. I can’t talk about the specific league. “I would like to stay in the league because of the treatment I received,” he pointed out.
However, Guerrero’s continuity in the Ecuadorian champion does not only depend on the agreement reached with the management, but also on the set condition.
“It was a pleasure to work with Luis Zubeldíj. If he stays, he will ask the whole group to stay. “My desire is to win the Copa Libertadores,” he said.
“I talked to him and he asked me to stay. I hope it continues. If he stays, I will too, because I know he loves me,” Guerrero concluded. (D)
