He Lointek Gernika Bizkaia has qualified for the round of 16 of the EuroCup after winning 69-58 at Kangoeroes Mechelen Belgian in Malose. Today was the second leg of the playoff, and the Basques had to overcome the five-point deficit they brought from the first leg played in Belgium.
Despite the upheaval experienced in the club in recent days due to the sexual assault complaint known last Sunday, the Bizkaia team has managed to stay focused during the forty minutes of play to obtain a solid victory, especially in the first quarter , when the Basques have dominated on the field.
After a disputed start, the players led by Lucas Fernández have taken the lead and have begun to open a considerable gap against their opponents, reaching a maximum advantage of 19 points in the 26th minute (54-35).
Despite the Flemish team’s efforts to reduce the gap, approaching eight points (66-58) with a minute and a half left, the Gernika players have not given up. With two shots inside the net, they have secured their place in the round of 16, sealing the matchup with an aggregate score of 139-133.
Centers Marie-Michelle Milapie, with 23 points, and Sofía Silva, with 12, have stood out as the local team’s top scorers. On Mechelen’s part, Elina Aarnisalo (17) and Laure Resimont (16) have led the offensive, although not enough to overcome the solid performance of Lointek Gernika Bizkaia.
