Tennis player Kostyuk refused a match with Russian Andreeva due to pressure
The organizer of the exhibition tournament in the French Bourg-de-Page explained the refusal of Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk from the match with 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva. His words are quoted in X journalist Javier Coffin.
The organizers said that the reason was pressure from the Ukrainian public on the athlete’s social networks. They emphasized that Kostyuk received threats, although she initially planned a match against the Russian.
On December 17, Kostyuk refused to play with Andreeva in the final of the exhibition tournament in Bourg-de-Page. In a statement, the organizers said that the Ukrainian athlete refused the match with Andreeva due to the “geopolitical situation.” Prior to this, she agreed to replace the injured Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic at the tournament.
As a result, the Russian woman had to play with a man, tennis player Yanis Ghazouani Duran. She lost to him with a score of 5:7, 2:6.
