Tretiak spoke about the possible refusal of NHL players from the Olympics

President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR) Vladislav Tretyak assessed the possible refusal of the National Hockey League (NHL) to let players go to the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. He is quoted by Match TV.

“We are waiting for news from the NHL. This is a very big problem. And no one knows how it will be solved, ”Tretyak shared his fears. He said that in the absence of NHL players, the team will gather in Novogorsk and fly to China in the first days of February. At the same time, the specialist noted that due to the uncertainty with the composition, two possible teams are now being formed.

Tretiak said the main reason for the possible refusal of the NHL from the Olympics is strict covenant restrictions. According to the rules of China, in case of infection with coronavirus, athletes must be in quarantine for up to 21 days.

In October, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly announced that the league could ban ice hockey players from the Olympics. This is due to a possible exacerbation of the situation with the coronavirus pandemic.

In early September, the organization officially announced that it would allow players to compete at the Beijing Games. Competitions will be held from 9 to 20 February.
