The 63-year-old athlete became ill on the bench and fainted. A team of doctors on duty in the arena proceeded to provide first aid, after which the players and spectators helped to transfer the hockey player to the car. On the way to the intensive care unit, Frolov died of cardiac arrest.
After the tragedy, the general director of the league, Alexei Kasatonov, told TASS that all measures were taken at the matches to ensure safety, including medical ones. “According to the regulations, no player is allowed to compete without a mark on the medical examination. The first aid team was present at the match, moreover, according to the regulations, doctors are required to be present at all matches of the tournament, ”he stressed.
On December 11, a fan of the Krylya Sovetov football club died after the match of the 18th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) against Rubin Kazan. They tried to give the fan first aid on the podium and called an ambulance, but he died before her arrival.
