Russian hockey player Artem Duda was banned from playing for a student team in the USA
The leadership of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has decided to ban Russian defender Artem Duda from playing for the University of Maine hockey team. College Hockey News reports.
According to the source, the 19-year-old hockey player went to the United States with a valid contract with CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2023. Then he entered the University of Maine, but was rejected in response to a request for the opportunity to play for the local Black Bears team.
Duda is a graduate of CSKA. As a member of the team, he played 14 matches in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The Russian was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2022 National Hockey League (NHL) draft in the second round.
On February 28, 2022, the NHL management announced sanctions against Russia. The organization suspended cooperation with partners from Russia and refused to hold any competitions under its auspices in the country. At the same time, Russian players continue to play in the league.
