He Lointek Gernika Bizkaia lost against Kangoeroens Mechelen (75-70) in the first leg of the play-off Women’s Euro Cup disputed in Belgium. The Basques have had victory in their hands for most of the time, but it has escaped them in the last breath.
Gernika’s team did not start the match in the best way, as the Belgian team took control of the first attacks and quickly took the lead (10-2). Even so, the Basques have stepped up and they have equalized the score with a partial 0-8, but they finished behind in the first quarter (18-13).
The next 10 minutes were more even and Lointek was even able to take the lead on the scoreboard. Mechelen continued to press, but the Biscayan team managed to go into the break ahead (30-32).
Upon returning from the locker room, the game continued at the same pace, with a constant exchange of baskets by both teams, but Lointek managed to close the quarter with a minimal lead (50-51).
Several baskets by the Basques have served to escape on the scoreboard and gain a small cushion that they have dedicated themselves to defending during the last minutes. With two minutes left, they tied at 66 and the game became very lively. And in the last seconds of the game an error by the Basques caused the game to slip away from them (75-70).
