NHL Commissioner Bettman Says Washington Won’t Move to Virginia
National Hockey League (NHL) Commissioner Gary Bettman assessed the possible relocation of the Washington Capitals club to another state. His words are quoted on the league’s website.
Bettman said that Washington, with captain Alexander Ovechkin, will not move to Virginia. “We are happy with the location of our franchises. “I know there are rumors that Washington has been approached to move to Virginia, which is four miles from their current arena,” he said.
In June, it was reported that team owner Monumental Sports & Entertainment was in talks with Virginia authorities. It was noted that both the hockey and basketball teams Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics, also owned by the holding, could move.
Three Russian hockey players play for Washington. In addition to Ovechkin, the team includes defender Alexander Alekseev and forward Evgeny Kuznetsov.
