With Daniel Alves on the field, Barcelona loses Maradona Cup to Boca Juniors on penalties

This Tuesday, after a 1-1 draw in normal time, the Barcelona lost to the Boca Juniors on penalties, for the Maradona Cup, at Mrsool Park, in Saudi Arabia. Hired in November after leaving the São Paulo, Daniel Alves made his debut for the Spanish team.

The Maradona Cup is a friendly competition designed to honor Argentine star Diego Armando Maradona, who passed away in November 2020. He wore the Barcelona and Boca Juniors jerseys.

Barça went into the field with a reserve team. Xavi Hernández promoted the following lineup: Neto; Alves, Garcia, Lenglet and Balde; Demir, Sanz and Puig; Jutgla, Coutinho and Dest.

Barcelona opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, with Ferran Jutgla. The 22-year-old winger was assisted by Philippe Coutinho to score the first goal of the game. At 22, Exequiel Zeballos was called in by Frank Fabra and tied the match for Boca Juniors.

Boca hit all their penalties: Rojo, Izquierdoz, Pavon and Molinas scored. On the Catalan side, Alves and Jutgla converted, but Matheus Pereira and Guillem were wrong. In this way, the Argentines overcame the opponent by 4 to 2.
