Bubka spoke about the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympics

Sergei Bubka said that he wants a ban on the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympics

Bubka spoke about the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by the French publication L’Equipe.

The former pole vaulter said he would prefer there were no Russians at the Olympics. “As a Ukrainian, I would like the decision to be different, because there is a war in my country, and Ukrainian sports are paying dearly for it,” Bubka said.

On December 8, Ukraine spoke about a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games after the admission of Russians and Belarusians. Later, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny made a new statement on the topic. According to him, Ukrainians will go to Paris and take part in competitions. “We have a little over six months to do everything to prevent the Russians from getting there,” Bedny emphasized.

Earlier, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
