Alexey Yagudin said that Russian athletes need to go to the 2024 Olympic Games
Olympic champion in figure skating Alexey Yagudin assessed the feasibility of Russian athletes participating in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. Sport24 reports this.
The former figure skater admitted that the admission criteria limit the presence of the country’s representatives at the Games as much as possible. “But, of course, we have to go. I always advocate that this is the life of a person, an athlete. Time passes when you are at your maximum. Therefore, we need to go,” said Yagudin.
On December 11, three-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Svetlana Kolesnichenko called the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russian athletes to the Games in Paris senseless. She drew attention to the fact that synchronized swimming at the Olympic Games is presented only in the form of a duet and a group, which means that the Russians will not be able to compete in any case.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
