Latvian President Rinkevičs allowed a boycott of the Olympics due to the admission of Russians

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics appreciated the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in a neutral status. His statement is quoted by LRT.

The politician allowed Latvia and Ukraine to boycott the competition. “But this is a decision that must be made by governments and sports communities in each country and, of course, it must be well coordinated and well thought out with like-minded countries,” Rinkevics said.

Earlier, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny said that the country would participate in the competition.

On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Games in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed.
