Tennis player Mirra Andreeva became the WTA Rookie of the Year in 2023
Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva became the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Rookie of the Year in 2023. This is reported on the organization’s website.
Russians Diana Schneider and Elina Avanesyan, American Peyton Stearns and Czech Linda Noskova also competed for the prize. It is noted that the award is awarded to tennis players who debuted during the season in the top 100 of the WTA rankings or achieved other achievements during the season.
On December 7, Tennis.com reported that 16-year-old Andreeva had moved up 359 spots in the rankings. At the end of 2022, it was ranked 405th, and is now at 46th.
The WTA and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) did not suspend Russians from competitions. Athletes continue to compete at tournaments in a neutral status.
