Ali Abdel-Aziz, the manager of the Russian mixed style fighter (MMA) Khabib Nurmagomedov, turned to the American Tony Ferguson. Post available in Twitter.
Abdel-Aziz invited 37-year-old Ferguson to hold a wrestling match with Nurmagomedov. The manager of the Russian stressed that he was taking the American seriously.
Both athletes are known for their performances in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Ferguson and Nurmagomedov could have repeatedly crossed in the lightweight division of the organization, but their fights were thwarted. In particular, the American was supposed to fight Nurmagomedov for the UFC champion title in the spring of 2020. However, amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian withdrew from the fight, and instead of him with Ferguson fought Justin Gage.
Ferguson was also supposed to rival Nurmagomedov in his first fight for the UFC lightweight title in the spring of 2018. Then the American was injured, and his place was taken by Al Iaquinta.
