Santiago Escobar, who left LigaPro in October, will be the coach of Universidad de Chile for the entire 2022 season

Last week, the Azul Azul concessionaire would have resolved the relationship of the Colombian coach.

The Universidad de Chile club made official on Monday night the arrival of its new coach, Colombian Santiago Escobar, who until last October was the strategist of Universidad Católica de Quito and was considered one of the best professionals in the LigaPro Serie A championship in Ecuador. .

“Welcome, Santiago Escobar! The Colombian DT arrives at Romántico Viajero to lead our first men’s team. Success and with all this 2022, teacher! ”, Published the U of Chile on his Twitter account.

The former coach of the Católica de Quito would have agreed to sign a contract that would last only one year.

According to information developed by the digital version of the newspaper Third, from Chile, last week “after an extraordinary board of directors of the concessionaire that governs the destinations of the University of Chile, Azul Azul”, it was determined that Escobar would be the helmsman of the campus for the entire 2022 campaign.

In a statement published on the club’s official website, it is stated that the 57-year-old from Antioquia “has long experience in important teams in South America.”

He began his coaching career in 1998 directing Deportivo Río Negro. In 1999 he was an assistant to Luis Fernando Suárez, at Atlético Nacional. In 2001, as coach of Estudiantes de Mérida de Venezuela, he won the opening tournament title that year, in addition to the runner-up in 2002. In 2003 he returned to the “verdolaga” team as assistant to Juan José Peláez.

In 2005, as the main coach of Nacional de Medellín, he won the Colombian League title, which he achieved again in 2011. In 2010 he managed Bolivian Bolívar, where he won the Aerosur Cup.

He also records steps by teams such as Deportivo Pasto, Once Caldas, Junior from Barranquilla and Independiente from Medellín, with which he won the 2008 runner-up, and Deportivo Táchira. His last stage was at the Catholic University of Quito, a club in which he spent four years and managed to qualify for the Copa Libertadores after two decades of absence from that Conmebol contest.

Escobar and his coaching staff left the team that competes in the LigaPro Serie A in Ecuador due to the club’s ‘breach’ of ‘work commitments’, as revealed in October.

The Colombian professional clarified that he was not leaving due to health problems, but because of the “breaches” of the capital’s directive.

“I am leaving with deep pain because Quito and the country have treated me very well. I want to clarify that I am not leaving for health issues, I am 100% relieved of my abilities, because an irresponsible person said that I was leaving for that ”.

“The players are afraid to speak and I understand them, but I am not going to shut up. Catholic University has broken us, they have not had a word. I can retire tomorrow from football, and I go with my head held high, “he said. It even says that they were made to sign documents to reduce wages, which were accepted, and other trades that “are not constitutionally valid and that were not registered with the FEF.” “Those who did not sign were going to be paid in a different way,” added Sachi, who left an important legacy during his time in Ecuadorian soccer.

The newspaper Third of the Chilean capital believes that next week the coffee helmsman will be presented at a press conference. (D)
