A skating rink named after Washington hockey player Alexander Ovechkin will be built in the USA
The Washington Capitals and their captain Alexander Ovechkin, as well as the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation, will hold a charity auction. This was reported on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The auction will feature items from Ovechkin’s celebration of scoring his 802nd NHL goal, which moved the forward ahead of Gordie Howe to become second on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
It is noted that the proceeds will be used to build a skating rink for the game of street bandy, which will be named after the player. It will be located in Virginia, Maryland or Washington.
Ovechkin ranks second on the list of the best snipers in NHL history behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky. The Russian has 827 goals scored.
Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005, and throughout his overseas career he has played for Washington. Together with the team, the Russian won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
