The coaching staff of the Russian youth team, headed by Sergey Zubov, named the names of the hockey players called up to participate in the 2022 World Cup. This was reported on the website of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR).
The list includes 25 players: three goalkeepers, eight defenders and 14 forwards. The players represent the clubs of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) and the Higher Hockey League (VHL).
The team will travel to Edmonton on December 15th. Four days later, the Russians will have a friendly match with Germany, and on December 22, the team will meet with a control game with Canada. Zubov stressed that it was difficult for the coaching staff to decide on the composition, and debates on several positions were held until the last moment.
The Ice Hockey World Youth Championship will take place from December 26 to January 5. The tournament will be hosted by Canadian Edmonton and Red Deer. Russia will play in the group stage with the USA, Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland. Of the five teams, four will advance to the playoffs.
