State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev proposed banning pop MMA. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Khamzaev called this sport a stupid and socially dangerous phenomenon, which is based on provocation and aggression. In his opinion, it is necessary to completely block such projects, which have a destructive impact on young people. In addition, it is necessary to check the founders and participants of pop-MMA organizations for extremism, as well as conduct a comprehensive audit by the Federal Tax Service.
Pop MMA is fights according to the rules of mixed martial arts, as well as fist fights, broadcast on Internet platforms. Not only athletes, but also show business stars, bloggers and people with no sports experience take part in the fights.
In 2022, the “Our Business” promotion organized fights of a special format: fighters fought in a cage wearing MMA gloves, but according to boxing rules. In particular, actor Nikita Dzhigurda knocked out deputy Vitaly Milonov. This was followed by the actor’s victory over TV presenter Otar Kushanashvili.
