Kanchelskis said that Russian clubs will not play in European competitions for another 10 years
Former Russian national team player, Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis predicted the timing of the removal of Russian clubs from European competitions. This is reported by Metaratings.
According to him, teams from Russia will not participate in international tournaments for another 10 years. “Therefore, the RPL needs to switch to “spring-autumn”, one hundred percent. Let’s change things a little for the better for the players, for the fans, for everyone,” Kanchelskis said.
On September 18, President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin answered a question about the return of Russian teams to international tournaments. “Russia will return to football only after the end [СВО] in Ukraine,” said the head of UEFA.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for access to the finals of major tournaments.
