Figure skater Roman Kostomarov spoke about his reluctance to live in the hospital in the first months

Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov told how he felt after being hospitalized. His words are quoted by TASS.

“The first couple of months there was absolute disappointment and unwillingness to live. I am grateful to my loved ones, my wife, my brother, who came every day and supported me with the words “don’t give up,” “we are together,” “we will go through this path,” “we need to move forward,” he said, adding that he did not understand why this the situation happened to him. Kostomarov suggested that sports training helped him cope with the disease.

Earlier, Kostomarov said that he tried to skate. “I’ll be on the ice soon,” he shared. At the same time, the skater emphasized that he does not set deadlines for himself, since he is still just getting used to new sensations.

Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. Due to prolonged connection to a blood oxygenation machine and a ventilator, his tissue began to die. Doctors amputated both feet of the skater, then the shins of both legs, the entire hand of his right hand and several fingers of his left.
