“Match TV”: IOC representatives do not see logic in actions regarding Russians
Controversies have arisen in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the position on Russian athletes. Match TV became aware of this.
The source said that many IOC representatives opposed the approval of a change of sports citizenship without the approval of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). In their opinion, the IOC itself is changing the regulations. “There is no logic in the actions of the IOC. It turns out that there is only one logic: Russia is not playing, which is good,” they said.
On November 29, the IOC announced that it had approved the change of citizenship of three athletes representing Russia. The decision was made ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Cyclist Valeria Lyubimova will compete for France, cyclist Mikhail Yakovlev will compete for the Israeli team, and Greco-Roman wrestler Georgiy Tibilov will represent Serbia.
The IOC later stated that the decision was made due to the suspension of the ROC. It is noted that the organization no longer has the right to act as a national Olympic committee.
