The European Gymnastics Union voted against the return of Russians
The General Assembly of the European Gymnastics Union banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in tournaments. This was reported on the organization’s page on the social network X.
Athletes will not be able to take part in European competitions from January 1, 2024, contrary to a decision by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
On November 10, FIG revealed the conditions for admitting Russians to international tournaments. Team members should not have connections with the army or law enforcement agencies, and they should not support the special operation. In addition, athletes’ uniforms should be light blue, rhythmic gymnastics apparatus should be completely white, and the musical accompaniment should not hint at nationality.
Russian gymnasts have not taken part in tournaments since March 2022 due to FIG sanctions.
