Swimmer Evgenia Chikunova and boxer Muslim Gadzhimagomedov won in the “Pride of Russia” nominations as an athlete and athlete of the year. Honored coach of Russia in rhythmic gymnastics Vera Shtelbaums became the best coach of the year. It is noted that the winners in the nominations will receive one million rubles.
The award winners were determined by an expert council. Its members included famous athletes, coaches, and public figures.
Chikunova is a silver medalist at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in the 200m breaststroke and the winner of the European Short Course Championships at this distance. In April of this year, she set a new world record at the Russian Championships in Kazan. The athlete swam the 200-meter backstroke in 2 minutes and 17.55 seconds.
Gadzhimagomedov is the 2019 world champion. He also won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the up to 91 kilogram weight category.
