Oleg Taktarov said that he had no desire to win the UFC championship belt
Mixed style fighter (MMA) and film actor Oleg Taktarov said that he had no desire to win the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) belt. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The former athlete said that he wanted to achieve beautiful victories and use different techniques for this. He added that he mixed techniques from sambo, judo and jiu-jitsu in his fights. “I was loved and hated. They hated me because there was more attention to me,” Taktarov emphasized.
In 2020, UFC founder Art Davey recalled that the first UFC champion from Russia is Taktarov. He emphasized that he respects former lightweight title holder Khabib Nurmagomedov, adding that it was easier for him to become champion than Taktarov.
Taktarov is the first Russian to win a UFC tournament. In the finals of UFC 6 in 1995, he defeated David Abbott.
