Mamiashvili said that wrestler Tibilov’s transfer to Serbia did not require the consent of the ROC
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili spoke about the details of the transfer of Russian Greco-Roman wrestler Georgiy Tibilov to the Serbian national team. Details became known to RIA Novosti.
Mamiashvili said that the federation agreed on Tibilov’s transfer to a foreign team two years ago, but the procedure was not completed due to political events. He added that the consent of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) was not required in the current situation. “Tibilov even fought at the World Championships two months ago, competing for Serbia,” the head of the federation emphasized.
On November 29, the International Olympic Committee announced that it had approved the change of citizenship of three athletes representing Russia. The decision was made ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In addition to Tibilov, cyclist Valeria Lyubimova joined the French team, and cyclist Mikhail Yakovlev joined the Israeli team.
23-year-old Tibilov is a bronze medalist at the World and European Championships. He also won the Russian Cup.
