Alexey Nemov doubted the holding of the 2024 Olympics in Paris
Four-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Alexei Nemov doubted that the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will take place. Sport24 reports this.
He also called on Russian athletes suspended from international competitions not to give up and prepare for alternative competitions. “Everything will change. You just need to survive the current situation, come up with a plan for how to continue living. It’s not a fact that the Olympics will even take place in Paris!” – Nemov noted.
The ex-gymnast called the suspension of the Russians unfair. “This is a tragedy. People who have been preparing for the Olympics all their lives do not have the opportunity to show themselves at full strength, win, bring gold to their country, family,” Nemov added.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments. The decision on the admission of athletes to the Games in Paris has not yet been made.
