Pozdnyakov called the opportunity to get an education a plus of the removal of Russians
The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov named the plus of the removal of the country’s representatives from international competitions. TASS reports this.
According to the head of the organization, under the current conditions, athletes have more time to receive basic or additional education. “It definitely won’t be superfluous. The flagship programs of the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) are already quite well developed and have proven themselves from the best side,” Pozdnyakov added.
On April 21, multiple medalist of the World Swimming Championships Kirill Prigoda also named the advantages of removing Russians from international tournaments. “To some extent, this is better, because if you constantly receive something, you get tired of it, but now we have the opportunity to close ourselves, sit at home and think about our mistakes,” said the athlete.
On October 12, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representatives of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the organization. “The ROC can no longer act as a National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” explained IOC Communications Director Mark Adams. However, the final decision on the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games has not been made.
