The International Fencing Federation was reproached for its negative attitude towards Russia

The head of the FFR Mamedov announced a negative attitude towards Russia on the part of FIE members

President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov reproached members of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) for their negative attitude towards Russia. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“It’s precisely those countries where there is no sports that are stirring up the situation. These are Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, as well as Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia,” he said. The head of the FFR noted that these countries are voting against Russia by order of the people behind the national federations.

Mamedov added that many foreign athletes turn to Russians with words of support. “Fencers with serious titles are waiting for our return, despite the fact that we are their competitors,” he noted.

Earlier, the FIE Congress did not support the proposal of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation to suspend the FFR’s membership in the organization.

In March, the FIE allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. However, the organization denied entry to many athletes, including Olympic champions Yana Yegoryan, Sofia Velikaya, Sofia Pozdnyakova and Olga Nikitina.
