Johan Padilla, the goalkeeper who played for Macará de Ambato this season, did not hide his discomfort with his colleagues who were part of the call-up by coach Félix Sánchez Bas for the 2026 South American qualifiers for the Ecuador national team.
For the last two matches played in the past few days, the goalkeepers who responded to Spain’s call are: Argentinian-Ecuadorian Hernán Galíndez and Javier Burrai and Alexander Domínguez.
On this occasion, Moisés Ramírez, from Independiente del Valle, could not be there because he is recovering from an injury.
“I will always be in favor of the Ecuadorian goalkeeper, I am like a Colombian: that music, food and sport, for them, will always be the best. Moisés Ramírez is a great goalkeeper, and there are others in his position,” he pointed out.
Johan Padilla, Ecuadorian goalkeeper:
“The truth is that I will always fight for the Ecuadorian goalkeeper who should be in the national team”“Gonzalo Valle deserved the opportunity to be invited”

“Gonzalo Valle from Guayaquil City is at a good level, Pedro Ortiz, who is talked about a lot, is the same, Hamilton Piedra, Brian Heras. There are many people who complain and say that there are no good goalkeepers in the country,” Padilla added in an interview with Teradeportes.
The goalkeeper persisted in his objections as he claims his colleagues in goal “don’t have a chance” at national level.
“There is not even an option for the microcycle (of the national team), for me, if they don’t want Ortiz, Valle should have been called up,” he asserted.
“They will come out and say no because Guayaquil City is fighting to avoid relegation, it has nothing to do with it because I was at El Nacional and they invited me. In Ecuadorian football, they always want from the outside more than from the inside,” concluded Padilla. (D)
