The athlete explained the decision by saying that he applied for a green card. He added that he would gladly accept Kazakhstani citizenship. “Kazakhstan is my and my ancestors’ second homeland,” Murtazaliev said.
Murtazaliev has 21 victories in 21 fights, which makes him an undefeated boxer. In his next fight he is scheduled to face German Jack Culcay. The athletes will fight for the world champion title in junior middleweight according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
On November 22, American boxer Jermell Charlo was stripped of his IBF junior middleweight title. Charlo had to agree on a fight with Murtazaliev. However, the American informed IBF President Daryl Peoples that he was refusing to fight at the moment.
