UEFA to re-draw Champions League play-offs

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will re-draw the Champions League round of 16. It is reported by Twitter organizations.

This was due to a mistake during the original draw. Andrei Arshavin, who took part in the ceremony, took out balls with the names of Villarreal and Manchester United from the basket. Meeting these teams in the 1/8 was impossible, as they played in the group stage. Then Arshavin pulled out another ball, defining the Spanish club Manchester City as rivals. When it became clear who Atlético would play against, they forgot to add Manchester United’s ball to the basket, but added Liverpool’s ball, which Madrid faced in Group B. As a result, Diego Simeone’s team got Bayern Munich as rivals.

“As a result of an error with the software of an external provider, who provided the drawers with information about which teams could and could not meet in the playoffs, there was a serious error. The draw results will be canceled, ”reads the UEFA statement. It is noted that the re-ceremony will be held on December 13 at 17:00 Moscow time.

Earlier on December 13, as a result of a draw, pairs of participants in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League were determined. There are no Russian clubs among the playoff participants. The first matches will take place on 15, 16, 22 and 23 February, with return matches scheduled for 8, 9, 15 and 16 March.
