Russian Olympic medalist assessed the need to obtain neutral status

Swimmer Kolesnikov said that he sees no point in receiving neutral status

Two-time Olympic medalist Russian swimmer Kliment Kolesnikov assessed the need to obtain neutral status to compete in international tournaments. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“I do not get the point of it. Even if you receive neutral status, you will not have a 100% guarantee of going to the competition,” the athlete said.

Kolesnikov said that he did not want to waste time and nerves on preparing documents, since in the end he could be denied neutral status.

On September 4, it became known that the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one swimmer. It is noted that a maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.

In April 2022, World Aquatics banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices.
