1997 Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich admits to doping
1997 Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich admitted to doping. His words are quoted by Eurosport.
“Yes, I took doping. It started in 1996. When I started doing this, there were already substances whose use could not be controlled,” said the athlete. He noted that he broke the rules in order to have equal opportunities with other riders who were also doping.
In February 2012, Ullrich was disqualified for using doping, which he received through the clinic of Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes. His results were canceled as of May 1, 2005.
In addition to winning the Tour de France, Ullrich has gold in the 2000 Olympic Games in the team race and silver in the individual race. The German also won the world championships three times, and in 1999 he became the best at the Vuelta a España. He retired in 2007.
