World champion Iversen: suspension of Russians negatively affects skiing
Four-time world champion Emil Iversen said that the suspension of Russian athletes has a negative impact on skiing. His words are quoted by Nettavisen.
The athlete considered that the Russians were practically the only competitors of the Norwegians in recent years, therefore, in his opinion, the excitement around skiing is subsiding. “Let’s hope there is peace and they can return,” he concluded.
On April 9, Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov spoke about the words from his Norwegian opponent that touched him. He stated that an athlete from the national team sent him a message with the phrase “come to us, we miss you” and with a wish to leave what was happening aside.
In March 2022, the Norwegian Ski Federation suspended Russians from participating in tournaments under its auspices. Later, the International Ski Federation extended this measure to all international competitions that it organizes.
