Cuban football players arrived for the match with Russia without the necessary boots

Cuban football players were bought boots in Volgograd before the match with the Russian national team

The Cuban national team players arrived for the match with Russia in Volgograd without the necessary boots. This was announced by the Secretary General of the Cuban Football Association, Miguel Angel Diaz, as quoted by Match TV.

“The question of the right boots arose. We have synthetic fields; as a rule, the lawn is not so wet, and therefore we use boots with short studs. When we arrived in Russia, we realized that we needed different shoes to play the match,” Diaz said.

According to the functionary, the team had to buy equipment directly in Volgograd. “The quality was not as important as the characteristics of the shoes in order to be able to play football normally on such a lawn,” Diaz noted.

A friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Cuba will take place on November 20 in Volgograd at the Volgograd Arena stadium. The meeting is scheduled to start at 19:30 Moscow time. The Cubans are ranked 169th in the International Football Federation (FIFA) rankings.

In October, the Russian team played two friendly matches. On October 16, Valery Karpin’s team tied with Kenya, and four days earlier they beat Cameroon. By decision of FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Russians are suspended from official international competitions.
