Karpin: it’s frustrating that there are only two Zenit players in the Russian national team
The head coach of the Russian national team, Valery Karpin, said that he was upset by the small representation of Zenit St. Petersburg players in the national team. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The specialist considered that the team could provide the Russian national team with more than two players, calling Zenit the flagship of Russian football. “Others are playing, the Russians are losing the competition,” the coach emphasized.
In the current composition of the Russian national team, the blue-white-sky blues are represented by midfielder Andrei Mostovoy and striker Ivan Sergeev. In the next friendly match, the national team will play against Cuba. The meeting will take place on November 20 in Volgograd.
The Russian national team has not competed in international tournaments since February 2022 due to sanctions from the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations.
