Motorsport Federation responds to Mercedes’ desire to deprive Verstappen of the championship

The International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) has rejected the protest of the Mercedes management over the results of the Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship in Abu Dhabi. The answer is given on the organization’s website.

The FIA considered it legitimate that the Dutch driver of Red Bull Max Verstappen overtook Mercedes representative Lewis Hamilton behind the safety car. Also, the federation called inappropriate the desire of Mercedes to change the final classification according to the positions that the riders occupied at the end of the penultimate lap. Thus, Verstappen will not lose the championship title.

Earlier on December 12, Verstappen became the winner of Formula 1 for the first time in his career. The 24-year-old Dutchman won the championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he was ahead of Hamilton. Mercedes management expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the race and sent two protests to the FIA.

Verstappen has been competing in Formula 1 since 2015. His best achievement so far was third place in 2019 and 2020. Hamilton seven times became the champion of “Formula 1”.
