Argentina’s unbeaten record is over. Uruguay troubled Messi who managed to beat him 0-2 in the match held at La Bombonera Stadium, a historic result for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they became only the fifth team to beat the Albiceleste at home.

However, it is also only the second failure that star Lionel Messi has suffered at home in his career. Of the 46 games that the Inter Miami player played at home with the national team, this is only his second drop.

The former FC Barcelona player remained with a balance of 32 wins, 12 draws and only one defeat, which happened in 2009, when Brazil was at Dr. Lisandro de la Torre managed to win 3-1.

Interestingly, neither of Argentina’s two defeats came at the Estadio Monumental, River Plate’s home ground and where the Albiceleste have a favorable record of 41 wins, 14 draws and 2 losses (both without Messi).

Argentina’s second defeat at home, but without Messi

Argentina suffered two more defeats at home, but Messi could not be present for the matches against Ecuador in 2015 when they lost 0-2 and in 2016 when they lost 0-1 to Paraguay.

Argentina played 80 domestic matches in the South American qualifiers, with a record of 56 wins, 20 draws and only five losses. Of those disasters, three were outside Monumental. (D)
