Napoli lost to Empoli this Saturday, 1-0, and missed the opportunity to take the lead in the Italian Championship.
The game, from the beginning, was dominated by Napoli. Empoli didn’t attack much and had difficulties getting into the opposing defense.
On 22 minutes, midfield Zieliński felt it and gave way to forward Lorenzo Insigne, making the team even more offensive.
In the final stretch of the first half, Empoli started to have more the ball, even so, still without creating great chances.
Neapolitan pressure
In the second stage, Napoli continued hammering and wasting chances to score. With greater possession of the ball and more than 20 shots on goal, Luciano Spalletti’s team struggled to swing the net.
On minute 25, in a rare opportunity for the visiting team, Cutrone headed into the goal after a corner kick and had a failure by goalkeeper Ospina to open the scoring.

After the goal, Empoli defended themselves with a line of five, making life even more difficult for the Neapolitans, who, despite launching themselves on the attack, could not infiltrate the opposing defense.
Even the six minutes of extra time were not enough for the home team to tie the game. With the result, Napoli loses leadership and remains in fourth place in the championship.
