British Pinches refused to play against a transgender person in the final of a pool tournament
Briton Lynn Pinches refused to play against transgender Harriet Haynes in the final of the English pool tournament Ladies Champions of Champions. The Telegraph reports this.
Pinches landed the first strike to officially begin the bout against Haynes, who is a biological male. However, she then shook hands with Haynes and the referee, put away her cue and left the arena. The audience greeted the athlete’s decision with applause.
“It was only the fourth final in my life, but a trophy or money means nothing to me without justice. That’s what I told the tournament director after it ended,” Pinches commented on the situation, adding that withdrawal from the finals was the hardest decision of her life.
Previously, the World Pool Federation-8 and Ultimate Pool Group allowed transgender and non-binary people to participate in women’s tournaments. As the source notes, after this more than 60 professional pool players united to oppose this decision.
