Swedish skiers complain about low prize money at domestic competitions
Swedish skiers have complained about low prize money in the country. SVT reports this.
“For sixth place in the race they gave me a box of fish and two sausages,” said skier Simon Andersson. He emphasized that it was impossible to pay the rent with this. Karl-Johan Vestberg said the federation is doing a poor job, not realizing how little the athletes receive.
In the 2023/2024 season, prize money at domestic competitions in Sweden was 1,500 kroner for victory (12,600 rubles), 1,000 kroner for second place (8,400 rubles) and 500 kroner for third place (4,200 rubles). Russian skiers this season will receive 100 thousand rubles for winning the Russian Cup race, 80 thousand for second place and 60 thousand for third.
On October 25, it became known that the council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) extended sanctions against Russian athletes. For the first time, restrictions on the performance of Russians at international ski tournaments were imposed in March 2022.
