In the first minute of the meeting, the referees recorded a violation of the rules on the part of Vegas: Canadian defender Braden McNabb hit Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin in the throat with his stick, after which the Russian forward fell to the ice. The game was stopped for a while, the striker went to the bench.

After discussing the episode, the referees decided not to count the violation of the rules. Thus, McNabb avoided punishment and removal from the site.

The match ended with a score of 3:0. Ovechkin scored no points. Dylan Strome, Connor McMichael and Beck Malensteen scored goals.
