Ecuadorian football coach Félix Sánchez Bas’ squad list brought with it two debutants for the team. One of them is the goalkeeper of Barcelona SC, Javier Burrai, and the other is the defender of Liga de Quito, Leonel Quiñónez.

Both players were a surprise and a novelty on the payroll of the Spanish strategist and will represent the colors of the national team for the first time.

‘It’s the biggest thing for a player’, Javier Burrai, goalkeeper of Barcelona SC, and his satisfaction with the call-up to the Ecuador national team

This will not be the first time that footballers share a team and a dressing room. Burrai and Quiñónez are two old acquaintances who have already defended the same jersey throughout their careers.

Javier Burrai, goalkeeper of Barcelona SC, has been invited to the Ecuador national team

They first managed to do it in Macara, in the seasons of 2018 and 2019. The goalkeeper arrived as a reinforcement to the Ambateño team in the first year, while he was a defender in the third season.

Later, in 2020, the two parted ways. Thanks to his outstanding performances, the goalkeeper arrived at Barcelona SC where they were champions, and he was a great figure in the final against Liga de Quito. While the defender remained in the light blue field.

However, just one year later, Quiñónez will be hired by the yellows and the players will be reunited in the team.

Burrai has established himself as the starting goalkeeper of the Canaries after a few seasons, while Leonel is part of the star-studded scheme of Albos who won the Copa Sudamericana and are fighting for the Pro League champion.

The great year they had individually as a goalkeeper and wing allowed them to share the team again, but this time in the Tricolor. (D)
