Rubiales calls three-year ban unfair for kissing Hermoso
The former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, has petitioned the Spanish Administrative Tribunal for Sports (TAD) to dismiss the case of a kiss with Spain captain Jennifer Hermoso. Europa Press reports this.
According to the publication, Rubiales called the three-year disqualification that he was given after considering the charges in TAD unfair. According to the functionary, in his case, a warning, fine or disqualification for up to six months would be legitimate.
On October 30, the disciplinary committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended Rubiales from football activities for three years. “FIFA reaffirms its absolute commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all people and ensuring that the fundamental rules of decent conduct are respected,” the statement said.
On September 8, Spanish prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Rubiales. The former head of the RFEF, who kissed the country’s women’s team captain Jennifer Hermoso at the 2023 World Cup, has been charged with sexual assault and coercion.
At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
