A physiotherapist answered a question about arm numbness after exercise

Physiotherapist Chen attributed numbness in her arms after exercise to muscle fatigue

Physical therapist Alice Chen answered a question about numbness in the arms and legs after exercise. Her words are quoted by Shape.

“Tingling or numbness in the arms is usually a sign that blood flow to the nerves is being blocked, usually due to overworked muscles,” Chen explained. In addition, tingling may occur due to the position of the body during exercise, for example: fixing your arms bent at the elbows on a treadmill.

The specialist said that to prevent numbness, it is necessary to pay attention to the training regimen and exercise technique. For example, instead of clenching your hands into a fist while running, Chen advises relaxing your grip and imagining that you are holding something light between your thumb and index finger. She explained that focusing on loosening your grip will also prevent you from swinging your arms too much, which is a waste of energy.

Earlier, fitness expert Natalya Gorbunova answered a question about training until muscles fail. “Training to failure is definitely not suitable for beginners. They are not yet fully familiar with the technique of performing the exercises; the nervous system is not prepared for such loads,” the specialist said.
