Khamzat Chimaev said that he refused a title fight in the UFC due to injuries
Mixed style fighter (MMA) representing the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Khamzat Chimaev explained the refusal of the title fight against American Sean Strickland in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He spoke about this in an interview with the MMATIKA YouTube channel.
“My manager called me and said that the fight is planned for January. He himself did not agree with this, he told the UFC: “If you want, do this fight. Whoever wins, we will fight,” he shared. Chimaev added that he is currently undergoing rehabilitation and treating minor injuries, after which he will begin training.
Strickland will meet South African Drikus du Plessis in the Octagon. The fight is scheduled for January 21 and should take place at UFC 297 in Toronto (Canada).
On October 21, Chimaev defeated American Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. The fight ended in three rounds with the victory of the fighter of Chechen origin by majority decision of the judges.
In total, Chimaev spent 13 fights in his professional career without suffering a single defeat. Previously, the athlete played for Sweden, but now represents the UAE and the Grozny Akhmat team.
