WADA said it expects the disqualification of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commented on the continuation of the hearings on the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Their statement is reported by TASS.
WADA said it appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the interests of fairness for athletes and clean sport. “We are glad that we were able to present our arguments before the panel of arbitrators, and now we are waiting for a decision,” they emphasized, adding that they are waiting for Valieva’s four-year disqualification and the cancellation of all her results.

On November 10, CAS completed hearings on Valieva’s case. The court announced that the final decision in the athlete’s case will be made in January 2024.
On January 13, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency informed the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that Valieva was not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation. WADA was dissatisfied with this verdict of the Disciplinary Committee and filed an appeal with CAS.
At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal involving her. Traces of a prohibited drug were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
