FIG will allow Russian gymnasts to participate in international tournaments in a neutral status
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has revealed the conditions for admitting Russians to international tournaments. The criteria document is available on the organization’s website.
As it became known from the document, domestic athletes will only be able to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, team members should not have any connections with the army or law enforcement agencies of the country. Russian gymnasts who do not compete in support of the SVO will be allowed to compete.
In addition, athletes and staff should refrain from any activities or comments about Russia. Musical accompaniment for programs should also not hint at nationality.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
Russian gymnasts have not taken part in tournaments since March 2022.
