The Zanzibar national football team has announced its desire to play with Russia in 2024
The General Secretary of the Zanzibar Football Federation, Hussein Ahmada, announced the team’s desire to play a friendly match with the Russian national team. His words are quoted by Sport24.
Akhmada said that the team planned to play against Russia, but not on November 16, as this is too early a date for the match. He stressed that the meeting could take place in the spring of 2024 during the international break. According to a federation representative, the potential holding of the game was discussed with the Russian Football Union (RFU).
On November 3, it became known that the Russian team would play against Cuba in the next friendly match. The meeting will take place on November 20 in Volgograd.
The Russian national team has not competed in international tournaments since February 2022 due to sanctions from the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region within Tanzania. The Zanzibar national team is not a member of FIFA and does not have the right to participate in the World Cup or the African Cup, but in other tournaments at the national team and club level it competes separately from Tanzania.
