Olympic medalist Pavel Bure said that football is more popular than hockey in Russia
Olympic medalist in the Russian national team Pavel Bure compared the popularity of hockey and football in Russia. His words are quoted by TASS.
Bure called football the number one sport in Russia. “At all times, football and hockey have stood apart, but football is still more widespread. It’s easier to play,” he explained.
The ex-forward added that all hockey players play football quite well. “Everyone can walk and run too. I took the ball and there you go. But on skates it’s still more difficult,” Bure noted.
Previously, three-time Olympic champion in figure skating Irina Rodnina and Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova refused to consider football the number one sport in Russia. Rodnina said that domestic football players are nothing. Tarasova noted that there is no football in Russia.
